Exterior
This is my 1969 Chevelle that my Father and I built. It took us a little over three years to complete but as you can see it was a labor of love.
The body was stripped down to bare metal before the restoration. Once it was in it's birthday suit we realized the extent of the rot behind the rear wheel openings in the quarter panels and in the rear body panel just below the glass. My father (being the master craftsman that he is, skillfully removed all affected areas from the car and hand fabricated patch panels to repair the body.
It took a lot of sand blasting and cleaning on my behalf to get this car ready for bodywork. From sand blasting the rockers, floor pans, and rain gutters to using chemical strippers I did as much grunt work as I possibly could to make this rebuild run smoothly. I also did a fair amount of disassembly, body work, and reassembly on my car as well.
With the guiding help of my father, we gently massaged the body back to perfection. It was a learning experience for me about the ins and outs of restoration. From bloody knuckles, sweat, and dirt in your eyes my dad was with me helping me achieve my dream of this car that you see here today.
Paint: All paint work was done by my father Andy Bergsma. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's House of Kolor Tangelo with a very very subtle SS stripe down the side that goes into flames on the quarter panels. The color for the stripe is Sunset Pearl (also from House of Kolor) Once the paint work was done it was time to reassemble this 69 Chevelle.
My dad skillfully rebuilt all the wiring in the car to handle the sound system that was to come. We applied the vynl top ourselves as well as pretty much everything else on this car, it was done in our garage.
Engine: Clark Holroyd rochester Q-Jet on top of an Edelbrock performer intake. 350 c.i. small block. Power is transferred via a rebuilt turbo 350 with a B&M Shift kit. 12 Bolt rear-end and front and rear sway bars help keep this street machine level on the road. Magnaflow exhaust 2 1/2 system full stainless front to back.
Audio: 2 Alpine E10 powered by Kenwood 1000 watt amplifier. 4 Kenwood Excelon Dual-Mags for full range and are powered by a Kenwood Excelon 1000 watt 4 channel. Rockford 1 farad cap helps keep everything in check in that dept. Headunit is a KDC-MP732. H4 Headlights help keep the road well lit in front.
Thats pretty much it for now. Enjoy and check out my father's Chevelle http://www.online-car-show.com/car-show/muscle_cars/1407_build_it_and_drive_it.cfm
